Sunday Sermon - 1 Corinthians Message 32

01/19/2020

1 Corinthians 13:1-7

Opening Prayer:

O Holy God, blessed are they who trust you, who do not trust in themselves or in the promises of another, for you are the God who inclines his ear to the lowly in heart, and your deliverance from sin is sure. Your open ear is an ever-available guard against loneliness and isolation, and your mighty hand has protected us from countless seen and unseen evils. Thank you for your gentle correction, consistent mercy, and listening ear. Please accept the praises of your people today.

We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Closing Prayer:

O Holy God, foolish and perverted is our self-focus, our tendency to think of all things in relation to ourselves, as though we were the point and end of creation, as though our desires and plans were glorious and worthy of laud! How different from us is the Christ! How humble is the Savior, he whose will is unsoiled by sin, and yet who submitted himself to the will of the Father! Lord, make us evermore like Jesus, aligning and pruning our desires and motives until they wholly coincide with your will! Grant your church the divine humility of the Savior, that we would ever-increasingly think of all things and people and resources in relation to you. And so may your church please you with ever-increasing God-centeredness and joy in you yourself!

We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
