Sunday Sermon - 08/25/2019 - 1 Corinthians 6:12-20

Opening Prayer: O Holy God, in our finitude we see very little of the sin in our hearts. Even worse, the quality of our limited sight is poor, and we see in others sins that are not sins, and we see in ourselves virtues that are not virtues! We have immense difficulty fighting even the very few sins that we acknowledge; how are we to uproot the sins that we do not see? Finite is our vision, and even more so our ability to do good. Truly, “There is none righteous, no not one.”And so we praise you for your infinite mercy and infinite goodness, for you forgive all of our sins and you heal all our infirmities, even our hidden sins that we ourselves have yet to see. In one sense your mercy is exp

Sunday Sermon - 08/18/2019 - 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Opening Prayer: O Holy God, when you scan the bodies and minds and souls of all who live upon the earth, who do you find to be weak? Is the weak one weak in body, lacking the muscle and training to move about freely? Or is the weak one weak in discipline, lacking the focus and fortitude to see a work to its completion? Or is the weak one weak in heart, lacking the motivation to walk another day down the difficult path of righteousness? Or is the weak one weak in influence, lacking the relationships and soft skills to connect and persuade? Surely, Lord, we are weak in one way or another, and surely none but Christ is truly strong, that is truly capable in all spheres of thought and motion and

Sunday Sermon - 08/11/2019 - 1 Corinthians 6:1-8

Opening Prayer: O Holy God, happy are the people whose God is the Lord! Though we are not worthy of your blessings, and though your salvation requires full admission of guilt, you do not lead us in paths of endless abasement and selfish sorrow, but into paths of righteous joy and quiet peace! You pluck us from lives of futility, feed us with truth, and protect us from evil arrogance. May your people rejoice in Jesus Christ, for in his holy Name we put our trust. Let your loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us, that you may be honored in the contentment and joy of your people. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen. Closing Prayer: O Holy God, we are pressed down by the weight of Christ’s last

Sunday Sermon - 08/04/2019 - 1 Corinthians 5:6-13

Opening Prayer: O Holy God, we were among those who wandered in desert wastes, searching for satisfaction in titles and status and influence, finding no shelter from the pounding of our own prideful desires. We were among those who hungered for deeper meaning than self-promotion and pleasure consumption. You delivered us from our distress, placed our feet on the paths of joy and reconciliation in Jesus Christ. Thank you for your mercy, for turning our hearts away from our own insatiable pride and toward your peaceful way. You are good, and your mercy endures forever. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen. Closing Prayer: O Holy God, opening the eyes of our hearts, we see the Lord Christ han

Sunday Sermon - 07/28/2019 - 1 Corinthians 5:1-5

Opening Prayer: O Holy God, though all manner of distractions and temptations and assaults have threatened to harm the Church of Christ, nevertheless you protected your people this past week, such that we still hold to the truth of the Gospel. Truly, “though the Lord be on high, he cares for the lowly,” and though we “walk in the midst of trouble, you keep [us] safe... your right hand shall save [us].” Thank you for faithfully tending to your people, even us in our day. May you be pleased by the praises and thanks offered by your church today. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen. Closing Prayer: O Holy God, the mighty work of salvation is done entirely by Jesus Christ, without any help f
