Sunday Sermon - 09/08/2019 - 1 Corinthians 7:1-9

Opening Prayer:

O Lord, truest friend, walking along the path of righteousness often feels no less wearisome than walking along the path of wickedness, and the discontent that flares up in our hearts make it difficult to discern on which path we are walking in any given moment. The beauty of your gospel is that we can rest trusting that you are protecting us, that you are tending to our real needs, and that we are never alone. Thank you for your guiding Spirit that leads us through the good places we don’t want to go, and steers us from the evil places that we desire so much.

Amen.

Closing Prayer:

O Surest Friend, in our better moments we only begin to comprehend the the infinite difference between you, the infinite, eternal Creator, and we who are made in your image. Where our love is hot then cold, your love is complete and fixed. Where our devotion full then partial, your devotion is sustained and eternal. Where our desires pure then twisted, your desires are divinely good and for our eternal health. Forgive us for our discontentedness with you and that which you give us;surely, the error is in us, the finite creatures, and not in you, the infinitely good Creator. May your people take ever-increasing satisfaction in your goodness, and become evermore discontent with worldly pleasures, that you would be honored in the hidden desires of your Church.

We pray this in the name of Jesus and for his glory. Amen.
