Sunday Sermon - 02/10/2019 - 2 Timothy 3:10ff

Opening Prayer:

O Holy God, though this past week we oscillated between passion and indifference, joy and sorrow, contentedness and unrest, nevertheless you have cared for us and brought us again into the congregation of the repentant. You again showed yourself perfectly faithful and kept us safe from countless invisible dangers; thank you for not abandoning us. Please accept our offerings of praise

and thanksgiving.

We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Closing Prayer:

O Holy God, we confess that the words of this hymn are difficult to live out, so prone are we to complaints and discontent. Forgive us of our arrogant unwillingness to submit to you in the hard situations of our lives. Grant us courage and humility to obey the words of Christ to turn the other cheek, to forgive others their debts, and to love our enemies; and so may the Father be honored in the holiness and contentment of his Church.

O God, there is otherworldly joy in obedience to your commands; thank you for giving us such a taste of heaven. We long for the eternal day when our wills are wholly aligned with yours, when our desires are no longer tainted by sin, when the victory of Christ over sin is acknowledged by all creation. May that day come soon. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
