Sunday Sermon - 03/17/2019 - Jeremiah 26:1-24

Opening Prayer:

O Holy God, so perfectly mighty are you that though generations of believers are called your servants, you have needed none of their service, none of their help, for certainly you have no need for imperfect humanity to assist you in executing your perfect plans. And so the psalmist is right to call you “my helper,” for though we are your servants, in truth our service is no help to you, but rather to serve you is the purpose for which we are made and is a conduit of blessing to us. Thank you for calling us to seek your face and for blessing us with the joy of submission to Jesus Christ. You are our helper, and though all others forsake us, our Lord will sustain us.

We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Closing Prayer:

O Holy God, we remember with fondness the joy of our newborn faith, when we first crawled out from beneath the weight of guilt and shame, when we were first released from addiction to our treasured sins. Thank you for calling us to faith in Jesus Christ, for adopting us as your children, for healing us from countless self-inflicted wounds. And forgive us for falling into dullness and indifference, as though your salvation was once effective but has now lost its power. Grant that your people be filled with the unshakeable joy of freedom though Jesus Christ, that you would be honored in the contentment and peace of your church.

We pray this in the name of Jesus and for his glory. Amen.
