Sunday Sermon - 1 Corinthians Message 38

03/01/2020

1 Corinthians 15:1-11

Opening Prayer:

O Holy God, your mercy embraces all those who trust you, and happy are those whose sins are forgiven. May confession and repentance especially mark the inner lives of your people this lenten season, that you would receive the gratitude you are due.

We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Closing Prayer:

Lord Christ, in Gethsemane we see your sorrow for and apprehension of the supreme load of the coming cross, and we hear the weariness and devotion in your thrice repeated simple prayer, “If it is possible, let this cup pass from me.” How how heavy was that task, how immense was that load, how dreadful was the punishment for sin that you asked three times for another way for the the Father’s will to be done? And yet you resolved to bear that weight, to carry that load, to absorb that lonely punishment! Were it not for that resolve, woe upon woe would be the lot of all humanity, but lo, the Savior prays, “Thy will be done.” Thank you, Lord Christ, for submitting to the Father, for willingly bearing our punishment and guilt and shame, for seeing us not as enemies but as prodigal sons. “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
