Sunday Sermon - 1 Corinthians Message 29

12/29/2019

1 Corinthians 12:1-3

Opening Prayer:

O Holy God, the snow and hail and winds obey you, they commence and cease at your word. May your people be so obedient, eager to move and give and speak at your command. And may your people think as did the psalmist, speaking of all things being yours, even “his hail,” and “his cold,”and “his wind.” And so may your church take every movement of nature, every human relationship, every circumstance as opportunity to offer you the praise you are due. For, truly, you have strengthened the bars of the gates of our hearts, protecting us from unseen evils; you have established peace between us and you, and between us and one another, peace that the striving world does not know; and you have given us your word, your statues and judgments, such that we can build our hopes and desires on firm truths and be unshaken by the storms and enticements of passing ideas. You are merciful, and generous, and kind. Please accept the praises of your people today.

We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Closing Prayer:

O Holy God, you have brought us safely through another year, and another year’s worth of joy and sorrow. Thank you for our friends and families and neighbors through whom you provided us with much comfort and growth. Thank you for your commands and directions and promises, which seemed to grow in beauty and wisdom every time we leaned on them for strength. Thank you for all the unseen acts of holiness and devotion and righteousness of the people we esteem too lowly, and for all the blessings they precipitated in our lives. And thank you especially for your patience with us in our stubbornness, for not abandoning us when we let our pride mar our relationships and dishonor your name. You were and are merciful, just, and kind. Thank you for loving us through another year; may you be given evermore devotion and praise in the year to come.

We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
