Sunday Sermon - 06/30/2019 - 1 Corinthians 3:18-23

July 3, 2019

Opening Prayer:

O Holy God, while it is true that you do not force yourself upon sinners, that you do not compel unwilling obedience from your creatures, it is also true that you lovingly lead your people though countless unseen dangers, such that we primarily perceive your guidance and protection in retrospect, not in the present. Such a fine line between forceful manipulation and compassionate guidance is walked only by the Creator. Thank you for guiding us through countless snares and woes, for lovingly leading us through despondency, apathy, and arrogance.

O gracious Guide, please accept the praises of your people today.

Closing Prayer:

O Holy God, to you we owe our whole existence, our bodies, our consciousnesses, our souls. To you we owe our histories, our present, our plans. To you we owe our freedom to choose the paths we walk, wise or unwise, evil or good. To you we owe our peace and rest and joy. Lord, how many more blessings and graces will we see when we look upon our lives retrospectively? How much more gracious and loving will you appear to us on that day? Thank you for your kindness to us, for giving us eyes, however dim, to see the light of Emmanuel! Glory to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who blesses us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, without measure, reservation, or cynicism.

We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ and for his glory. Amen
