Outreach Ministry
As a church we are committed to sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with those that have not heard the message in obedience to the Lord’s commission of Matthew 28:18-20. The primary way this is accomplished is through the day-to-day relationships our members have with unbelievers in their work, school, neighborhoods and activities. We believe this kind of relational outreach is the most effective form of evangelism in the long run. However, we also recognize the need for more structured, intentional evangelism efforts to reach those who have not heard the message of Christ. As a result the church has organized a few ongoing outreach opportunities to the community as a whole.
Gainesville State School
Gainesville State School is a maximum security facility in the Texas Youth Commission system for incarcerated boys, ages 12 to 21. Our church has adopted one dorm (16-20 youth) in the facility. Members go up to Gainesville State School once a month on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the birthdays of the boys on the dorm. During the visit we share testimonies or devotionals from the Bible, worship God through song, play games, and share homemade desserts with the boys. If you would like to join us or want more information on this outreach please e-mail Jim Wilder or call 940-387-6533.
Church at Home
Once a quarter each Church at Home Group does a service or outreach project. These projects have included neighborhood block parties, participating in giveaways of clothes and bicycles in poorer communities, and visiting people who cannot leave their homes. The projects change from quarter to quarter based on the decision of the group.
Inter-Church Outreach
Recognizing that the Lord’s Church encompasses more than just our fellowship, we have participated in joint outreach with other churches in the Denton community. We plan to make this kind of joint outreach a regular part of the outreach ministry of Denton Community Church. The latest joint outreach event was a door-to-door prayer survey where we went to two neighborhoods in Denton gathering prayer requests from the residents. The Lord opened many doors (literally) through which we were able to pray for the needs of the community and share the truth about God’s love for men.
Scrapbooking
This is a new ministry that we are just starting and we are excited about its potential to reach the lost. Denton is home to a large seniors community and many of these seniors would like to preserve memories for their children and grand-children. We are organizing people who have a love for scrapbooking and serving the elderly to send groups in to local retirement homes to assist seniors in creating these memories. We envision this ministry as not only ministering to the elderly but also to their children and grandchildren as a practical demonstration of the love God to men through Christ. If you would like to participate in this ministry please e-mail Bryan Collins or call 940-383-0033.
